WASHINGTON — SPARTA is thrilled to announce the addition of Emma Shinn to the Board of Directors. Emma joins SPARTA as the Director of Community Relations and will work to build bridges with other civil rights focused organizations and individuals. SPARTA understands the power of collective action and intersectional identities and is fully committed to supporting all who value our constitutional liberties and who work to expand opportunities for all individuals.
Emma Shinn is a Marine judge advocate and prior enlisted infantry platoon sergeant, enlisting in 1994 and temporarily retiring from active duty in 2014. She is preparing to go back on active duty, but for the past four years, she ran her own criminal defense practice, Shinn Law Office, LLC, representing service members and civilians in state and federal courts in Colorado and military courts across the globe. She is a zealous advocate for defending our Constitution and individual liberties.
"I am beyond excited to be a member of SPARTA’s Board of Directors and work with veteran service organizations and others to achieve full inclusion in our Nation’s services for trans service members" said Shinn. She recalls stepping on the yellow footprints at Marine Corps boot camp in 1994 and had no idea the path that lay ahead for her. She says "Since that decisive day, it has been my distinct honor to be both an Enlisted Infantry Marine and Officer of Marines all over the globe in peacetime and direct combat. No less than six times over my career, I’ve sworn a sacred oath to protect our Nation against all enemies. I continue to live by that oath every day."
