WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today SPART*A, the nation’s leading transgender military service organization, announces Katie Schmid as the new Board Secretary. She has been a member of SPART*A since 2014 and has served as the Army Chapter Leader within SPART*A for the past four years in addition to roles on the membership and mentorship committees. She's been on active duty in the US Army since 2005, and holds the rank of Staff Sergeant.
“It's an honor to be chosen for this position. I only hope I can give back some of what Sparta gave to me. I owe my life to Sparta's support and advocacy, to the mentorship and camaraderie I found here” stated Schmid. She continued "I honestly believe that we are in a position to make the military better by what we do here. By taking care of these soldiers, sailors, airmen, and marines, we fulfill our duty to stewarding the military profession and to take care of our community."
SPART*A also announces the election of Bree Fram to Vice President of the organization. Bree has been on the Board for two years and previously served as Secretary and Communications Director. Bree will continue to serve in her communications role and said "I'm excited for the opportunity to continue serving our amazing members and I'm thrilled the board has placed the trust in me to promote the mission of the organization."
The Board of Director's also eliminated the position of Director of Research. Those duties will be subsumed under the Director of Advocacy. Jacob Eleazar, the former Director of Research has been elected as the new Director of Advocacy. SPART*A would also like to thank Danyiel Brustmeyer, who recently resigned from the board, for his years of service to the organization and wishes him the best as he takes on new opportunities.
